Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks on the Floor of the House of Representatives in support of H. Res. 271, calling for the Department of Justice to reverse its position in the Texas v. U.S. lawsuit and instead defend protections for people with pre-existing conditions and all Americans’ health care. Below are the Speaker’s remarks:

Washington D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined House and Senate Democrats on the steps of the Supreme Court for a press event to highlight House and Senate resolutions calling on the Trump Administration to halt its assault on Americans’ health care in the courts.  Below are the Speaker’s remarks:

“Each Equal Pay Day, Americans must renew our solemn commitment to fully and finally securing fairness, equality and economic justice for women. This Equal Pay Day, we are celebrating a major achievement, by marking the passage by the House of H.R. 7, Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro’s landmark Paycheck Fairness Act to secure equal pay for equal work. Now, we call upon the U.S. Senate to take up and pass this critical legislation.

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement as the U.S. House of Representatives filed an amicus brief at the Supreme Court in the case of Department of Commerce v. New York, in which the U.S. district court for the Southern District of New York enjoined the Trump Administration from including a proposed citizenship question in the 2020 Census, finding it unlawful.  A federal district court in California also enjoined the proposed citizenship question.  The House’s brief supports the response by New York and the coalition of 17 states, urging that the district court’s ruling requiring the proper conduct of the Census be promptly affirmed by the Supreme Court when it hears arguments on April 23, 2019:

For nearly a decade, the historic Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act has empowered students and families and ensured that all Americans can access the quality, affordable higher education necessary to succeed in the 21st Century economy.

San Francisco – Speaker Pelosi released this statement, announcing the House will vote next week on H. Res. 271, a resolution led by Congressman Colin Allred, condemning the Trump Administration’s legal campaign to take away Americans’ health care:

“The House is deeply concerned about this request, which seeks to fully revive the Administration’s horrific and immoral family incarceration and family separation plans.
