“The President’s selection is a clear and disrespectful assault on the fundamental rights of women and on the quality, affordable health care of the American people.  Judge Kavanaugh’s long history of opposition to the full, fundamental right of every woman to make her own decisions about her body, family and health care poses a grave threat to women’s rights and to our Founders’ promise of liberty and justice for all.  If he proves as eager an executor of the President’s bitter campaign to overturn Roe v. Wade and sabotage Americans’ health care as his record suggests, a woman’s right to choose will be repealed and the health coverage and economic security of 130 million Americans with pre-existing conditions will be in grave peril. 

In Republicans’ latest assault on Americans’ health care, it has been reported that the Trump Administration will stop making critical risk adjustment payments – which will further increase premiums for millions across the country.   

“One hundred and fifty years ago, with the ratification of the 14th Amendment, our nation took a monumental step forward in its ever-advancing march toward a more perfect union.  By expanding the rights of citizenship and due process, and guaranteeing equal protection under law, the 14th Amendment righted historic wrongs by overturning the outrageous, immoral Dred Scott decision.  This landmark amendment soon paved the way for many of our nation’s most important legal and legislative victories, including the desegregation of schools, a woman’s right to choose and marriage equality.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Trump Administration announced over the weekend that it was suspending for the time being critical risk adjustment payments, cynically and incorrectly alleging that their decision was required by a court decision, which will increase premiums in both the individual and small group markets:
