San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after President Trump’s latest comments on the Charlottesville violence perpetrated by white supremacist groups:

At least three people were killed and 20 people seriously injured in an act of terror today in Charlottesville. The vile beliefs of the perpetrators of this violence insult our fundamental American values and must be condemned in the strongest terms.

Ten years ago, the Democratic-led Congress passed the America COMPETES Act, a bold, effective bill that spurs innovation, creates good-paying American jobs and helps keep America number one in the world. The Trump Administration has a duty to the American people to build on that progress, but instead has spent its first 200 days conspiring to gut job-creating investments in science, technology and research – while at the same time failing to offer a single real proposal to raise wages, create jobs and strengthen America’s economic leadership.
