"For 45 years, the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe has been a beacon of hope and a bastion of human rights and other fundamental freedoms in Europe and around the world," said Speaker Nancy Pelosi. "From the dark days of the Cold War, this Commission has evolved into an essential force for good: forging strong ties between freedom-loving nations, championing free and fair elections and the rule of law, standing up for territorial integrity and sovereignty and fighting terrorism and human rights violations."
