Today, Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, Rep. Linda Sánchez (CA-39), Chairwoman of the Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law, and Reps. Artur Davis (AL-07) and Tammy Baldwin (WI-02) sent a letter to Robert Luskin, attorney for former White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove, clarifying the committee's request for Rove to testify. Last week, Luskin responded to the committee's request with a letter stating that Rove would respond to written questioning.

The House has just passed the Strategic Petroleum Reserve Fill Suspension and Consumer Protection Act, H.R. 6022 by a vote of 385-25. The measure suspends the fill of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve through the end of the year, as long as the price of crude oil remains above $75 per barrel.

News reports that troops determined by the Department of Defense to be medically unfit for combat have been deployed to Iraq are additional reminders of the unacceptable strain the war in Iraq is continuing to have on the readiness of our military and our national security.

These reports are further evidence that it is not possible to keep more than 140,000 U.S. troops in Iraq without cutting corners that endanger those serving in Iraq.
