Months before General David Petraeus offers his scheduled Congressional testimony on Iraq, Defense Secretary Defense Robert Gates and the Bush Administration have already delivered their verdict about security conditions in Iraq. According to them, Iraq will not be secure enough five months from now to permit any more than the 'surge' forces to be withdrawn. That means that there will be the same number of U.S. troops in Iraq in August 2008 as were there in August 2006.

Congressman Charles Rangel (NY-15), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, delivered the Democratic Radio Address this morning. In his address, Chairman Rangel discussed the bipartisan economic stimulus package passed by the House and Senate that will help hard-working Americans who are struggling during the economic slowdown. Chairman Rangel explains, "while this package may be a good first step, it seems to me after recovery -- and we will recover -- that we have to really take a look to see what caused us to get to this situation and how we can get out."

The House has just voted 380-34 to adopt the Senate Amendments to the bipartisan economic stimulus legislation (H.R. 5140) and sent it to the White House. The package will help hardworking Americans who are struggling with the high costs of gas, health care and groceries, and to jumpstart our slowing economy and create jobs here at home.

The House has passed the College Opportunity and Affordability Act by a vote of 354-58, which will continue this Congress' effort to make college more affordable and accessible.
