Press Releases
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the House's request for an en banc rehearing in its litigation to enforce its lawful subpoena compelling former White House Counsel Don McGahn to testify was granted by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which also vacated the earlier panel's judgment:
"The Court of Appeal's decision to grant an en banc rehearing in the McGahn case is a victory for the rule of law and for our Constitution's system of checks and balances. The full Court will now have the opportunity to uphold longstanding legal precedent that supports the House's ability to perform its Article I legislative oversight responsibilities and to address the Administration's wholesale obstruction of those responsibilities.
Dear Democratic Colleague,
As you know, the coronavirus crisis presents a grave and accelerating threat to public health and to the economic security and well-being of the American people. As Members of Congress, we have a solemn and urgent responsibility to take strong, serious action to confront and control this crisis and to put Families First and stimulate the economy.
To put Families First, last week, House Democrats took the first step: passing a strong, bipartisan $8.3 billion emergency funding package of entirely new funds.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks on the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Below are the Speaker's remarks as delivered:
Speaker Pelosi. Good afternoon. Over the last several weeks, our nation has been faced with a grave and accelerating challenge, one that tests our compassion, ingenuity and resolve: the coronavirus crisis.
Sadly and prayerfully, we have learned of the tragic deaths of at least 41 Americans from this public health emergency so far.
The American people expect and deserve a coordinated, science-based and whole-of-government response to keep them and their loved ones safe: a response that puts families first to stimulate the economy.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Freshmen House Democrats for a press availability ahead of the House vote on the Families First Coronavirus Response Act. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. Good evening, everyone.
Thank you for being around, this hour of the night. I am very proud of the success we have had, the work of our Committee Chairs and the staff to put together this legislation.
As you may recall, last Sunday Chuck Schumer and I put forth the priorities that we wanted to see in what we call the ‘Families First' response to this coronavirus crisis. This followed our bill last week, last Wednesday, that was about the appropriations bill. $8.3 billion, putting families first.
