Press Release
August 21, 2019

Dear Democratic Colleague,

As House Democrats continue our successful drumbeat of action across the nation to "Own August," I write with several important updates for our Caucus, Congress and Country.

First, I am grateful to all Members for your leadership in your districts to highlight the progress that House Democrats have made in our first 200 days fighting For The People, both through in-person events and on social media. You have made our legislation too hot to handle for the Senate GOP to block.

San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after President Trump made comments stating, "We already have a lot of background checks":

"Countless lives have been saved since the passage of background checks legislation. San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Government of Israel announced its decision to prevent Congresswomen Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar from entering the country:

"As one who loves Israel, I am deeply saddened by the news that Israel has decided to prevent Members of Congress from entering the country.

"Last month, Israeli Ambassador Dermer stated that, ‘Out of respect for the U.S. Congress and the great alliance between Israel and America, we would not deny entry to any Member of Congress into Israel.' This is a sad reversal and is deeply disappointing. I pray that the Government of Israel will reverse that denial.

San Francisco — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Trump Administration announced a proposal to gut protections that prevent federal contractors from discriminating against LGBTQ Americans, women and other minorities:

This hateful rule would greenlight open discrimination against tens of millions of Americans in the workplace, using taxpayer dollars to throw into jeopardy their safety, financial security and well-being.

"From Day One, this Administration has tried to inflict a campaign of intolerance against the American people. Its unceasing attacks on the civil rights and human dignity of the LGBTQ community and on other vulnerable populations profoundly dishonor our values as a nation and undermine the freedoms of all Americans.
