Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement after Republican Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes announced he will temporarily step aside from an investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, including interactions between Moscow and the Trump campaign:

"Chairman Nunes recusing himself from the House investigation into the Trump-Russia connection is long overdue.  The Chairman was compromised from day one, and he had no business leading the investigation into the Trump-Russia connection.

"The White House made a fool of Chairman Nunes, and he has deeply tarnished his credibility as Chairman and the credibility of his Republican colleagues.  Instead of serving as a pawn of a White House desperate to change the subject, the House Intelligence investigation must get on track.
