“Political gimmicks and partisan games won’t change the facts: the Affordable Care Act is working for our middle class and working families. Republicans should end their obsession with upending the law and work with Democrats to strengthen it – to ensure affordable health care for America and good health for all Americans.”

"That’s not a good place to be when we have to say to our children, and our grandchildren, and future generations: ‘Did you do everything you could?’ We want to say, as our President did: ‘Yes we did.’ You certainly can."

"And I know that some more of the new Members who have come would support an increase in the minimum wage. All we want is a vote. Economists and experts agree that when Americans can earn higher pay, businesses benefit, communities thrive, and our nation prospers. Perhaps you were at our press conference yesterday, but I think it bears repeating, the small business owners who testified talked about what it meant to them in the productivity of their workers, what it meant in longevity of holding workers for a longer period of time, and the morale."

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi sent the following Dear Colleague letter to House Democratic Members on her endorsement of Congresswoman Anna Eshoo for Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce Committee:
Dear Colleague,
The recent announcements that our esteemed colleagues, Mr. Dingell and Mr. Waxman, will retire at the end of this Congress present our Caucus with a decision as to who will lead the Energy and Commerce Committee – "the Committee of the Future."
In that spirit, of moving with a policy for the future, I strongly endorse Anna Eshoo to become the top Democrat on the Energy and Commerce Committee. It had not been my intention to make a public endorsement, but since so many of you have asked, I am writing to let you know why I support Anna.

“This Republican measure must be reviewed as part of a broader discussion on action to build an economy that works for everyone.”

“Just think of this: it increases wages for nearly 25 million people – a raise for nearly 25 million people. It lifts over one million people out of poverty. It empowers women because, again, more than 60 percent of people making the minimum wage are women. More money in the pockets of consumers, more demand for our small businesses, more security, progress, and prosperity for the middle class. To not have this vote is to abdicate our responsibility that we have to the middle class, the backbone of our democracy. Mr. Speaker: give us a vote."

“The 50th time is not the charm for House Republicans. Taking the 50th vote to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care Act won’t create jobs, won’t strengthen the middle class, won’t reduce our deficit, and won’t grow our economy. By all measures, this latest Republican proposal is nothing more than an exercise in futility, but worse – because if it actually became law, it would actively weaken the hand of America’s workers and exacerbate our fiscal challenges.”

“Unfortunately, Republicans are continuing their obsession with undoing the Affordable Care Act, planning their 50th vote to repeal or undermine this landmark law. Republicans should end their fixation, and work with Democrats to strengthen the law and preserve health care as a right, not a privilege, for every American.”
