The Need For Health Care Reform

Without health care reform, the cost of health care for the average family of four is projected to rise $1,800 every year for years to come--and insurance companies will make more health care decisions. House Democrats will introduce a bill tomorrow that reduces health care costs, protects and increases consumers' choices, and guarantees access to quality, affordable health care for all Americans.

This afternoon, Speaker Pelosi and Democratic Leaders held a press conference with Phil Feaster, Diane Buch, and Tammy Rostov highlighting why we are reforming health care this year and why it is important to do so--and do so as soon as possible:

On Appointment of Dr. Regina Benjamin as Surgeon General of the United States

Dr. Regina Benjamin will come to her new position as Surgeon General as a leading spokesperson on public health issues and a deep commitment to creating a healthier America.

From her experience in establishing a rural health clinic in Alabama, Dr. Benjamin understands the need for real health care reform that lowers costs, gives greater choice, improves quality, and provides stability and peace of mind.

I look forward to working with Dr. Benjamin on issues of prevention, wellness, and ensuring the health of our children. President Obama has made an excellent choice for Surgeon General of the United States.

With the historic passage of clean energy jobs legislation last month, some critics are inventing absurd claims about the American Clean Energy & Security Act (ACES). The Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming answers these false claims:

Will I need an energy audit to sell my home?

NO, ABSOLUTELY NOT. Just ask the National Association of Realtors: "The House approved bill does not create a federal energy audit requirement for real property... Leaves the decision to states as to whether to require energy audits, disclosures, etc."

Veterans' Health Care & Military Construction Appropriations Passes House
July 10, 2009
Today, the House passed the FY 2010 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Bill (HR 3082) by a vote of 415 to 3 to fund critical veterans health services and the construction of facilities for training and housing our military. The bill will strengthen quality health care for more than six million patients -- including 419,000 veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The bill also provides advance funds for veterans health services in 2011, so that funding for our veterans' health care is timely and reliable. Learn more about the bill>>
