“Legitimate criticism of the policies of both the United States and Israel is protected by the values of free speech and democratic debate.  And indeed, such criticism is essential to the strength and health of our democracies.  But drawing false equivalencies between democracies like the U.S. and Israel and groups that engage in terrorism like Hamas and the Taliban foments prejudice and undermines progress toward a future of peace and security for all."

House Democrats passed widely popular legislation to put shots in arms, money in pockets, and people back in jobs, and the results show that the Rescue Plan is continuing to put money back into the pockets of the American people.

“Today marks an important step in the fight against the pandemic. With this strong commitment of 500 million vaccine doses, on top of the 80 million doses already committed from the American stockpile, President Biden and Vice President Harris are taking decisive action to save lives, crush the coronavirus across the world and restore American leadership in the global arena. The House applauds this bold action, which was made possible with the $4 billion Democrats secured in the December coronavirus relief package and the $1 billion in the American Rescue Plan to help vaccinate the world as quickly as possible."

San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking the 58th anniversary of the Equal Pay Act, signed into law by President Kennedy on June 10, 1963:

"Today, our nation marks 58 years of the Equal Pay Act, which enshrined ‘equal pay for equal work' into law. This vital principle is foundational to our democracy's promise of full equality and imperative for our nation's economic success. While we have made some progress over the last six decades, equal pay is not yet a reality: women are still paid only 82 cents for every dollar paid to men. For women of color, the gap is far worse: Black women make 63 cents, Native women make 60 cents and Latinas make 55 cents.

San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the interview of former White House Counsel Don McGahn before the House Judiciary Committee, which was the result of a House subpoena:

"The fact that McGahn testified is a victory for Democracy. It is a resounding vindication of the House's subpoena powers, which are a pillar of our system of checks of balances that ensure that Congress can pursue the truth for the American people.

"The truth is that Donald Trump was impeached for his egregious and unprecedented violations of our Constitution and our Democracy.

"It is imperative that all administrations respect the Congress's authority to conduct oversight and consider legislation on behalf of the American people, including its subpoena power."

This past week, we have observed Memorial Day and the 77th Anniversary of the invasion of Normandy. Both occasions afforded us the opportunity to honor those who fought and many who died for freedom. As we return to Session, we are challenged to ensure that, as we honor their sacrifice, we also honor our oath of office to support and defend the Constitution. We are at urgent moment because of the Republican assault on our Democracy. By contrast, Congressional Democrats have brilliantly and patriotically proposed legislation to respect the sanctity of our Democracy. I am writing to update you on the status of that legislation.
