Today, the House passed the bipartisan Job Creation Through Entrepreneurship Act (HR 2352) by a vote of 406-15--giving established small businesses and entrepreneurial start-ups the needed tools and resources to thrive, create jobs and drive economic growth.
This bill is the first major overhaul in a decade of the Small Business Administration's entrepreneurial development programs -- such as Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs), Women's Business Centers (WBCs), and the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) -- with the expansion and improvement of some of the most successful programs.

This afternoon, the House passed the final version of the Credit Cardholders' Bill of Rights (H.R. 627) by a vote of 361-64--leveling the playing field between card issuers and cardholders by applying common-sense regulations that would ban retroactive interest rate hikes on existing balances, double-cycle billing, and due-date gimmicks. The House passed the bill on April 30th but a different version, including an unrelated amendment by Sen. Coburn undermining gun safety laws, was passed in the Senate yesterday by a vote of 90-5. With today's passage in the House, the bill now goes to the President's desk for his signature.

Today, President Obama announced a National Fuel Efficiency Policy, which will include the first nationwide standards for vehicle fuel mileage and emissions--raising standards to 35.5 miles per gallon by 2016. This will result in reducing oil consumption by approximately 1.8 billion barrels over the life of the program and has the environmental impact of taking 177 million of today's cars off the road.

Mortgage fraud has reached near epidemic levels -- with FBI mortgage fraud investigations more than doubling in the last three years. Corporate frauds, like the $65 billion Ponzi scheme perpetrated by Bernie Madoff, are being uncovered as the economy has worsened, exposing many investors to massive losses. This afternoon, the House passed the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act by a vote of 338-52 -- investsing in the Justice Department and other agencies to hire prosecutors, agents, and analysts to aggressively pursue mortgage, corporate, and other financial fraud.
