The letter:
February 19, 2009Dear Chairman:
Congress stands ready to complement the Administration's efforts by acting on Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers' legislation to reform our bankruptcy laws, so that judges can modify mortgages and responsible homeowners can stay in their homes. We will also act on Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank's legislation to improve the Hope for Homeowners program, which will provide millions of American homeowners refinancing alternatives to prevent their homes from being foreclosed.
The Congress and the President understand the deep apprehension that the American people feel -- about their jobs, their health care, and the economic security of their families. Congress has responded with swift, bold, and sweeping legislation that will help create and save millions of jobs and transform our nation, with tough accountability and transparency.
Today is a day of new jobs, new hope, and a New Direction for the American economy.
