San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the September jobs report, which showed that the U.S. created 263,000 jobs last month and a 3.5 percent unemployment rate:
"Today's jobs numbers offer further proof that America remains on a path of strong, sustainable job growth. Under President Biden and a Democratic Congress, our nation has seen the strongest jobs recovery in modern times: with ten million more Americans having the dignity and security of a regular paycheck, the unemployment rate matching the lowest level in five decades, and Hispanic unemployment at an all-time low.
San Francisco — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after President Biden announced historic marijuana reform, including pardoning of previous federal offenses of simple possession and urging governors to do the same at the state level, and ordering a review of the classification of marijuana as Schedule I drug:
"Today is a day of hope and healing, as President Biden takes historic steps to reform America's approach to marijuana. These transformative actions are the latest manifestation of Democrats' unyielding commitment to justice, especially for those unfairly harmed by cannabis criminalization.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. sent the following letter today to Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) expressing serious concerns about the proposed acquisition of TEGNA, a broadcast news company that manages 64 stations across 51 domestic markets.
Amid the accelerating consolidation of local news outlets, the letter requests that the FCC closely review the pending transaction to ensure that it is in the public interest and promotes the FCC's values of localism, competition and diversity on the airwaves.
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit upheld a district court's ruling against the 2012 DACA Memorandum, but remanded the case to the district court to consider the updated and final DACA rule issued by the Department of Homeland Security in August 2022:
"Today's appellate court ruling offers a measure of temporary relief for our Dreamers, who are a pride and constant reinvigoration of our nation. President Biden is to be commended for his proactive action in August to strengthen the DACA initiative against extreme MAGA Republican attacks.
