The Cost of the War in Iraq to Our Military Readiness

Next week, General David Petraeus and Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker will testify before Congress about the Iraq war. As many media reports have made apparent, the intention of General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker next week is simply to announce a continuation of the current strategy -- the decision to maintain at least 140,000 U.S. troops in Iraq indefinitely was made weeks ago.

Conyers: Settle 9/11 Health Claims Now

(Washington, DC)- Chairman John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI) gave the following statement at today's joint hearing before the Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, Refugees, Border Security, and International Law, and the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties entitled Paying With Their Lives: The Status of Compensation for 9/11 Health Effects. During his questioning of the panelists, Conyers also expressed support for providing relief to those who suffer ongoing mental health trauma in addition to those suffering from physical ailments.

In July the Oversight Committee held a hearing, "FEMA's Response to Reports of Toxic Trailers." The Committee heard testimony from residents occupying FEMA trailers, experts who are familiar with the health impact of formaldehyde, and from FEMA Administrator Paulison.
