Dear Colleague,

Three years after the guns fell silent in the Civil War, thousands of Americans came together to help heal our nation and honor the fallen by decorating the graves of 20,000 soldiers from both armies at Arlington National Cemetery: a day known as "Decoration Day" which would become Memorial Day. The responsibility to honor the sacrifice of our men and women in uniform has always been unifying in our country.

On Monday, our grateful nation will come together once more on the beautiful and solemn occasion of Memorial Day to recognize the patriots from every generation who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation and our freedom. Humbly and prayerfully, we give thanks for their courageous service and sacrifice, which ensures that America will always be the land of the free and the home of the brave.
