The Heroes Act addresses hunger in America, which has always been a challenge to the conscience of our country. The coronavirus has made this challenge worse, as millions of families struggle to put food on the table due to this unprecedented threat to their lives and livelihoods. Surveys show that 1 in 5 mothers of children under 12 say that their children are not getting enough food during the coronavirus crisis – three times the rate during the depths of the Great Recession.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent the following letter today to President Trump regarding the firing of State Department Inspector General Steve Linick. Speaker Pelosi asked for more information on the grounds of the Inspector General’s removal, especially in light of revelations that Mr. Linick’s firing may have been linked to an investigation into the approval of an $8 billion arms sale to Saudi Arabia opposed by the Congress.

One year ago, as we joined the world to mark International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia, House Democrats took a momentous step toward finally and fully ending discrimination against LGBTQ Americans by passing H.R. 5, the Equality Act. This transformative legislation brought our nation closer to its founding promise of liberty and justice for all by ensuring all Americans, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, are treated equally under the law – not just in the workplace, but in every place. Yet, for 365 days, Leader Mitch McConnell has refused to allow a vote on this critical legislation.
