Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined Michel Martin on NPR's Weekend All Things Considered for an interview to discuss the ongoing efforts to respond to the coronavirus pandemic, including the recently passed interim emergency funding package transformed by Congressional Democrats to provide critical support for small businesses, hospitals, health care workers and a national testing strategy. Michel Martin. In the past few weeks, with the support of both parties, Congress has passed four coronavirus bills to meet the economic and health care demands of this pandemic. The most recent one, signed by President Trump on Friday, allocated billions of dollars for small businesses, hospitals and widespread testing.

Well, what we passed today, which we just finished passing, is the testing – we have $25 billion in there for testing, but we require that there be a national strategic plan for testing and that we have reporting back, as to how it is impacting all communities – communities of color and diversity in our country. And so it insists on that.

Today was an historic day for us, to once again to pass our, now, fourth bipartisan legislation to address the coronavirus crisis.

We're very pleased with the vote, 388-5, 388-5, passing under suspension and a recorded vote. We had masterful leadership of Richie Neal managing the bill on the Floor for us, and he disciplined many of us to stick our – to keep our remarks to 30 seconds. So, I will use 30 seconds to acknowledge the greatness of our leadership of our committees who made this important event possible, and then take 30 seconds to comment on it.
