Washington, D.C. – Today, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer issued this joint statement following their meeting with President Trump at the White House:

"Today, we had a constructive meeting with President Trump agreeing on a big and bold initiative to build the infrastructure of America.

"The purpose of the meeting was to find out the amount of investment the President was willing to agree to. We were pleased he suggested $2 trillion. We agreed to meet again in three weeks, at which time we will hear the President's ideas for how he would pay for such a package.

Speaker Pelosi. I guess it is afternoon – good afternoon, everyone. We just had a very productive meeting with the President of the United States. We came to this meeting with an understanding that there is great need in our country for building our infrastructure, for the recognition that we stand in a pivotal place in terms of building infrastructure for the future.

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the passing of former Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher:

"Today, with the passing of former Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher, the Congress and the country have lost a leader of exceptional courage, firm principles and unmatched persistence. Her passing is a great loss to the people of California and to the nation, and is a source of heartbreak for all who were blessed to call her friend. Personally, it was a joy to see the delight she took in being a mother to Katherine.

Good afternoon, everyone. It is an honor to be here with our distinguished Chairman Mark Takano, Ranking Member Roe. Thank you both for the relentless drumbeat of actions on behalf of our veterans and leading up until now, and certainly today.

Our Congress and our country are grateful for your laser focus and that of the full Committee in convening the first hearing on the scourge – bipartisan, we want to act as much as possible in the most bipartisan way possible for our veterans.

Dear Democratic Colleague,

As I'm sure you will agree, the two week district work period has been an eventful one on many fronts. On the home front, Members spent time connecting with our constituents about the kitchen table issues facing America's working families.

In our first 100 days, the House was busy passing vital bipartisan legislation that addresses the issues that matter in the lives of the American people.

The House has sent the Senate legislation that has strong bipartisan support across the country, consistent with our For The People agenda. We urge Senator McConnell to take up the legislation as soon as possible.

• H.R. 1 – the For The People Act to restore confidence in our democracy;

• H.R. 8 & H.R. 1112 – the Bipartisan Background Checks Act and the Enhanced Background Checks Act, commonsense gun violence prevention measures;

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement marking 104 years since the beginning of the Armenian Genocide:

"One hundred and four years ago, the Ottoman Empire began its horrific, systematic murder of more than 1.5 million innocent Armenian men, women and children. For over a century, the Armenian people have stood courageously against those seeking to rewrite history and deny the Armenian genocide.

"We have a moral obligation to remember these barbaric acts of ethnic cleansing and continue to acknowledge the truth of this dark stain on the history of the world. To honor the memory of those lost and the suffering of those who survived, we firmly and unequivocally denounce all attempts to devalue or minimize these heinous crimes.

Dear Democratic Colleague,

As you know, last Thursday's release of the redacted Mueller Report has caused a public outcry for truth and accountability. Since its release, our Committees of jurisdiction and their staffs have spent the holiday weekend reviewing its contents. Our country is well served by the exceptional leadership of our Chairs to seek the truth for the American people.

While we do not have the full report and the underlying exhibits, including the grand jury testimony, two of Special Counsel Robert Mueller's conclusions stand out: one, the "sweeping and systematic" Russian interference in our elections; and two, the President's repeated efforts to thwart cooperation with the independent prosecutors in their pursuit of justice.
