Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi sent the following letter today to President Trump regarding the State of the Union address.

“The President’s shutdown inflicted needless pain and chaos in the lives of millions of Americans, and stole billions of dollars from the economy.   Workers’ financial security, families’ well-being and America’s economic strength all were senselessly sacrificed because of President Trump’s callousness.

Speaker Pelosi.  Good evening, everyone.  It’s an honor to be here with my colleagues who made this legislation possible.  It’s an honor to be here with our appropriators: the Chair of the Appropriations Committee Nita Lowey; the Chair of the Subcommittee on Homeland Security, Lucille Roybal-Allard.  We’re all pleased to join our distinguished Majority Leader [Steny] Hoyer.  Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Lujan.

“The indictment of Roger Stone makes clear that there was a deliberate, coordinated attempt by top Trump campaign officials to influence the 2016 election and subvert the will of the American people.  It is staggering that the President has chosen to surround himself with people who violated the integrity of our democracy and lied to the FBI and Congress about it.

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi today named House Democratic Members to serve on a conference committee for homeland security.

Speaker Pelosi.  Thank you very much, Mr. Leader, and thank you for your leadership in bringing us to this important resolution now, where shortly the Senate will send over to the House the paper.  I came over to see the original paper, and we'll get it probably in a half an hour.
