“On this Tax Day, Americans are watching the GOP’s tax giveaways enrich big corporations and the wealthiest 1 percent at the expense of seniors and working families nationwide. Around the kitchen table, working families aren’t seeing what they were promised. Instead, they’re seeing that the GOP tax scam has exploded the debt and is now threatening the future of Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

“When the reported chemical weapons attack in Syria took place, I called upon the Administration for an intelligence briefing on this attack as soon as possible. Democrats continue to call for an immediate, comprehensive intelligence briefing on this attack and the Administration’s Syria strategy.

“This latest chemical weapons attack against the Syrian people was a brutally inhumane war crime that demands a strong, smart and calculated response.  One night of airstrikes is not a substitute for a clear, comprehensive Syria strategy.

“Under the guise of helping community banks, the GOP is chipping away at essential protections that prohibit big banks from gambling with the savings of the American people. The exemption to the Volcker Rule passed by the House today makes it easier for the Trump Administration to pursue a full repeal, and could once again put taxpayers on the hook if Wall Street is left unchecked.

“President Trump’s pardon of Scooter Libby makes clear his contempt for the rule of law.
