Leader Pelosi.  I thank the gentleman for yielding. It’s interesting to note, Mr. [Steve] Cohen is a Member of the Judiciary Committee. This is a balanced budget amendment and what's interesting is, it's not coming by way of the Budget Committee, as you might suspect. It's coming by way of the Judiciary Committee because it intends to amend the Constitution of the United States. How sad.

“This partisan proposal seals Republicans’ betrayal of rural communities and working families across the nation. House Republicans are hastily moving to devastate the seniors, veterans, individuals with disabilities and vulnerable communities who rely on SNAP to put food on the table. The GOP’s ‘workforce requirements’ are nothing but a cynical Trojan Horse to take away SNAP from millions of hungry families, and push forward new burdensome bureaucracies that fly in the face of evidence-based policy.

Protecting the Special Counsel’s investigation into Russia’s interference in America’s elections is of the utmost importance.  The President’s threat to interfere with this investigation by firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein must be taken extremely seriously.  We are closely monitoring three possible steps that the President might take:

Leader Pelosi. Good afternoon everyone. The votes, as usual, rule our timetable, so forgive me for being a few minutes late. But, we are all here to raise our voices against the Republicans’ cynical balanced budget constitutional amendment, and their brazen attacks on Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. We are very honored that Lisa James Henson is here, and perhaps Lucila Torres will be here as well, to share their stories with us.

“The Fair Housing Act stands as one of the landmark victories in the struggle for civil rights and social justice.  Prior to 1968, widespread, insidious discrimination in housing prevented millions from pursuing their American dreams.  For half a century, this bedrock of our nation’s civil rights legislation has provided a bulwark against discrimination and a path to justice.
