Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement after Democrats offered a previous question to force an immediate vote on the Advancing Seniors and Kids Act, introduced by Congressman Donald McEachin, a critical bill to meet overdue, urgent health care priorities for the American people:

Leader Pelosi.  Is it still morning?  No.  Good afternoon.  It's always important to place ourselves in time, and right now we are in a moment of truth, a moment of truth about how we go forward to meet the needs of the American people. 

Leader Pelosi.  Mr. President, Mr. Vice President and Mrs. [Karen] Pence, to our distinguished [House] Speaker [Paul Ryan], [Senate] Majority Leader [Mitch] McConnell, [Senate Democratic Leader] Chuck Schumer, it's an honor to be here with so many friends of Senator [Bob] Dole and so many colleagues.  

Republicans have been busy retweeting individual company announcements of possible bonuses – claiming they are proof that the GOP tax scam is ‘working.’  But the truth proves otherwise: corporations are overwhelmingly pocketing the GOP tax scam’s profits themselves, instead of sharing them with hard-working Americans.

“The Trump Administration’s deeply shameful plans to conduct immigration raids in California are an act of pure malice.  Hard-working immigrants will be targeted and their families torn apart, simply for being Californians.  This vast immigration dragnet is purpose-built to instill fear in our communities.  These raids will certainly not make Americans safer.

“Today, we mourn the loss of Dr. Mathilde Krim and celebrate her extraordinary legacy as a trailblazing champion in the fight against HIV/AIDS.  As an early researcher studying the epidemic and as a founding chairman of amfAR, the American Foundation for AIDS Research, Dr. Krim offered an unyielding voice for the vulnerable, guided by her unshakable belief that ‘each human life has the same value as any other.’  Her research and advocacy gave hope and strength to millions, and her determination to educate and engage fundamentally changed the public conversation about HIV/AIDS.

“Two years after President Obama issued an emergency declaration to address the catastrophic Flint water crisis, the disaster sadly remains far from over.  Thousands of children are still required to drink bottled water, and countless families continue to live under a cloud of fear and uncertainty about the impacts of years of lead exposure.  The Americans caught in this unconscionable, man-made catastrophe continue to need critical services such as high-quality health care and educational services, as well as resources to continue monitoring the safety of their water supply and the health of their children.
