Good afternoon, everyone. Thank you for being here. I'm honored this morning, or now afternoon, to be joined by the distinguished Ranking Member of the Homeland Security Committee, Congressman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi. Congressman Thompson has been a champion for protecting the homeland of our country and really has been a persistent advocate, dissatisfied sometimes in what has happened. He'll talk about that.

Thank you, Mr. Speaker. In 1984, before the United Kingdom handed over Hong Kong to China, the Chinese government promised ‘a high degree of autonomy’ for the territory in the Joint Declaration on the Question of Hong Kong: providing for independent executive, legislature and judiciary; ensuring the freedom of speech, press, assembly and religion; prohibiting the central government from interfering in the affairs that Hong Kong administers on its own according to the Basic Law; and pledging a path to universal suffrage.

Senate Republicans are supposedly proposing a number of changes to their mean and heartless Trumpcare bill prior to the July 4th recess, including at least $45 billion for opioid addiction treatment. Funding for opioids sounds great right? Yeah, not so much in this case.
