Paul and I were heartbroken by the terrible news of the shooting of Congressman Davis' grandson, Jovan Wilson.

“Days after naming a white nationalist as his Chief Strategist, the President-elect has chosen an Attorney General with a long record of racially offensive statements, discriminatory goals, and contempt for voting rights. As Attorney General, Jeff Sessions would have dangerous new authority to attack civil rights, LGBT rights, and the rights of immigrants and people of color."

So, the last time we met, I was very positive that Hillary Clinton would be the next President of the United States and walk into the Oval Office as one of the best qualified Presidents in our country's history. We, of course, are all very disappointed – more than disappointed. It's hard to accept the result. But accept we do. Peaceful transfer of power is what America and our democracy is about.

Good afternoon, everyone. Thank you for being here as I welcome the Vice President-elect to the Leader’s office. It is an honor to have also his daughter, Charlotte, with us today. Thank you, Charlotte, the future. It’s always nice to have the future in the room. I was honored to, again – well, welcoming the Vice President-elect here is like welcoming him back home to the House of Representatives. Anyway, we had a straightforward conversation about how we can work together on infrastructure and issues that relate to childcare and the rest. Following up on the conversation that I had with President-elect last week. I was honored to show with Vice President-elect the picture of the Bush Family that we treasure with President George Herbert Walker Bush participating in his Points of Light conference in Houston a year or so ago. I did that to make you feel at home in the office of Tip O’Neill.

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi wrote to her Democratic colleagues this morning asking for their support in her run for Democratic Leader. As Pelosi writes in her letter to House Democrats, “It is with both humility and confidence that I write to request your support for House Democratic Leader. As of this writing, I am pleased to report the support of more than two-thirds of the Caucus.”

Gwen Ifill was a legend. Her dignity and grace, intellect and insight set the standard in American media and public life.
