The Voting Rights Act is one of the great guardians of our democracy. Yet three years ago, the Supreme Court decided to dismantle some of the most important protections of this critical law – opening the door to brazen efforts to disenfranchise American citizens with new barriers to the ballot box. Despite the flood of evidence that the Voting Rights Act must be restored and strengthened, the Republican Congress has refused to act.

July's strong jobs report shows our economy continues to forge ahead. Yet Congress should be doing more to further energize our economy with long-overdue investments in innovation, education and infrastructure to build a stronger America for every community.

Veteran homelessness is a challenge to the conscience of our nation. No person who served our nation in uniform should be forced to sleep on our streets. Thankfully, with the leadership of President Obama and the investments of Democratic Congresses, we are marking strong progress against chronic veteran homelessness.
