Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released this statement on the first-ever transmission of the Zika virus by local mosquitos on the United States mainland, with four confirmed cases of local transmission in Florida:

"More than five months after the President requested emergency resources to protect American communities from Zika, we now have reports that local mosquitos are spreading the Zika virus on the U.S. mainland.  Yet, with more than 5,230 Americans – including more than 770 pregnant women – as confirmed Zika cases, the Republican Congress has left town for seven weeks having failed to provide the resources needed to protect the American people.

Washington, D.C. — Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today released this statement following an attack that killed dozens and injured hundreds, many of them peaceful protestors from the Shiite ethnic Hazara minority in Kabul, Afghanistan:

 "The American people mourn the victims and pray for the survivors of a despicable attack on peaceful protestors in Kabul.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Afghanistan.

"Hazaras gathered at this peaceful demonstration were simply exercising their right to demand resources for their families. The international community must forcefully reject any attempts to silence with violence the voices of peaceful demonstrators and religious minorities.

We especially – we mourn every loss, but let me especially mention two Americans identified among the dead: Sean Copeland of Austin, Texas and his 11 year old son. They were there on vacation, and they got caught in that attack. It's an attack that came on Bastille Day, as you know, as they were watching fireworks and celebrating. And I thought one of the statements of one of the officials of France was particularly moving. He said, "In response to all of this, we will honor the values of July 14th." We, too, in responding to it, should honor the values of July 4th. They were celebrating liberty, equality, fraternity and became a target. It's so sad.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement regarding the declassification of redacted "28 pages" from the Joint Inquiry into Intelligence Community Activities Before and After the Terrorist Attacks of September 11, 2001.  Pelosi, the longest serving Member of the House Intelligence Committee, is a former Ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee and was the top House Democrat on the Joint Congressional investigation looking into the 9/11 attack.

"As someone who has always advocated for providing as much transparency as possible to the American people consistent with protecting our national security, I am pleased that these documents looking into the 9/11 attacks have finally been declassified and made public," Pelosi said.
