San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement after Paul Pelosi's release from Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFGH) and concerning his continued recovery:

"The Pelosi family is thankful for the beautiful outpouring of love, support and prayers from around the world.

"Paul is grateful to the 911 operator, emergency responders, trauma care team, ICU staff, and the entire ZSFGH medical staff for their excellent and compassionate life-saving treatment he received after the violent assault in our home.

San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the horrific attack on Paul Pelosi:

"Since the horrific attack on Paul early Friday, we have been deluged with thousands of messages conveying concern, prayers and warm wishes. We are most grateful.

"Thanks to the excellent trauma care medical team at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Paul is making steady progress on what will be a long recovery process.

"Our family thanks everyone for their kindness."

Dear Colleague,

Yesterday morning, a violent man broke into our family home, demanded to confront me and brutally attacked my husband Paul. Our children, our grandchildren and I are heartbroken and traumatized by the life-threatening attack on our Pop. We are grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and emergency services, and for the life-saving medical care he is receiving.

Please know that the outpouring of prayers and warm wishes from so many in the Congress is a comfort to our family and is helping Paul make progress with his recovery. His condition continues to improve.

"Earlier this morning, Paul Pelosi was attacked at home by an assailant who acted with force, and threatened his life while demanding to see the Speaker.

"Mr. Pelosi was admitted to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital where he underwent successful surgery to repair a skull fracture and serious injuries to his right arm and hands. His doctors expect a full recovery.

"For 13 years, the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act has been a pillar of justice – upholding the fundamental rights of all Americans, no matter who they are or who they love. President Obama and Congressional Democrats enacted this landmark legislation with a heavy heart for those stolen away by bigoted violence and with profound respect for the advocates who have turned anguish into action.

"Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi. The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation. Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery. The Speaker was not in San Francisco at the time.

"The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time."

"As Americans mark four years since the horrendous attack on Pittsburgh's Tree of Life Synagogue, the deadliest antisemitic massacre in American history, my colleagues and I join our nation's Jewish community in mourning eleven peaceful worshippers stolen away by a monstrous act of hate. Our hearts weigh heavy as we comfort those forever scarred by unimaginable loss, and we solemnly recommit to honoring those killed by forging a brighter future. Our country has a moral responsibility to combat the scourge of antisemitism – to ensure every American can live free from bigoted speech and hate-fueled violence.
