Working on behalf of Big Banks and Wall Street, congressional Republicans are desperate to weaken or altogether stop tough Wall Street Reform legislation from coming out of the House and Senate Conference Committee currently negotiating a final bill.

This week, the House and Senate conferees continue their conference committee meetings on the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act--common-sense reforms that hold Wall Street and the Big Banks accountable. Tomorrow, the conferees meet at noon on provisions addressing consumer protection, risk retention, mortgage reform and anti-predatory lending.

On Sunday, United Nations World Refugee Day, we again bring attention to the plight of men, women and children all over the world who have been forced to flee their homes for safety. The theme of this year's World Refugee Day is: 'They have taken my home, but they can't take my future.' This is especially fitting given the current statistics on refugees around the world.
Currently, the UN estimates there are more than 43 million refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide.

An Associated Press-GfK poll released this week finds that public support for the new health insurance reform law has risen to its highest point in AP polling--with 45% in favor of the Affordable Care Act.
AP called the shift in public sentiment "significant", and the "latest survey found the strongest backing for the health care plan since the AP-GfK poll began asking in September."

Small businesses are the engine of our economy, creating two-thirds of the new jobs over the last 15 years. Small businesses continue to face a lack of credit and tight lending standards, with 45% of small businesses seeking loans unable to get their credit needs met in 2009 and lenders reporting three years of tightening loan standards for small firms through this winter.

Yesterday, after meeting with BP executives, President Obama announced BP will create a $20 billion disaster compensation fund for Gulf Coast workers, their families and businesses who have been affected by the oil spill. This fund will be administered by an independent third-party--Mr. Kenneth Feinberg, who oversaw the 9/11 Victims' Compensation Fund.
