Chairman Henry Waxman of the Oversight Committee sent the following letter (pdf) to Secretary of Defense Gates today:

Today's Federal Reserve rate cut is another strong signal of Chairman Bernanke's commitment to addressing the consequences of the credit crisis and restoring confidence in the markets.

While there is no quick fix to repair our struggling economy, more must be done to begin to reverse the economic mismanagement of the past seven years. Congress is prepared to work with the Bush Administration to help alleviate the serious economic hardship facing America's families.

In contrast to the President, we believe that further decisive action is needed now.
