Democrats want to work with the President, yet he continues to engage in the same tired rhetoric that does not serve the best interests of the American people.

Democrats are hard at work on a sweeping new energy policy, tax relief for middle-class Americans, and bringing our troops home from Iraq. As always, we will accomplish our goals in a bipartisan and fiscally responsible way.

Our Troops Sacrifice While Bush Administration Refuses to Place Real Pressure on Iraqi Government

In January, the President announced the so-called troop "surge" to give Iraq's government the "breathing space" to achieve political reconciliation. Eleven months later, Iraqi politicians have failed by every measure to make the necessary political progress.

Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today in response to President Bush's remarks this afternoon at the Pentagon:

"Earlier this month, Congress approved nearly a half trillion dollars for the Department of Defense. Just two weeks ago, House Democrats passed $50 billion in additional funding for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

President Bush's agreement with the Iraqi government confirms his willingness to leave office with a U.S. Army tied down in Iraq and stretched to the breaking point, with no clear exit strategy from Iraq.

The President should take responsibility for his Iraq policy rather than expect the American people or the next Admisitration to bear the consequences of his mistakes.
