Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement after the Supreme Court handed down a 5-4 decision in the case of Department of Commerce v. New York:

"Today's ruling destroys the Trump Administration's ‘contrived' claims that adding the citizenship question was to help enforce the Voting Rights Act. More importantly, the Supreme Court's ruling provides an opportunity to ensure that the Census reflects our country in full. The Trump Administration's cynical attempt to use the Census for improper political purposes was clearly designed to inject fear into vulnerable and traditionally undercounted communities, making them even more vulnerable and undercounted. The Trump Administration must end those efforts now.

Dear Democratic Colleague,

It is my belief that our country is at a moment of truth in acting upon our values with the policies we present. I am proud of the work of our Appropriations Committee in the House in passing a bill that received overwhelming Democratic support on Tuesday.

The current situation on the border is shameful and does not reflect our values. We don't need anyone, especially the U.S. Senate, to tell us what the needs are at the border. Our Members are very well-versed and excellent representatives of the regions that are affected. But we want to find a path to improve the conditions under which we are addressing and ministering to the needs of children and families there.

We are gravely disappointed in the actions taken by the Senate in opposing regular order of Congress.

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement after the Supreme Court handed down an opinion in Rucho v. Common Cause and Lamone v. Benisek, which deals with the constitutionality of and judicial role in partisan gerrymandering:

"The Supreme Court's ruling strikes at the very heart of our American democracy. As Justice Kagan wrote in her dissent, the Court's role in our system of government ‘is to defend its foundations. None is more important than free and fair elections.'

"This ruling greenlights the unjust and deeply dangerous practice of gerrymandering, which robs Americans of their right to have an equal voice in their government. Traditionally underserved communities, especially communities of color, risk losing the representation and resources they rightfully deserve.

It's just a joy to be having this opportunity to speak out for the sacred oath to vote, the sacred blessing, the right to vote as we leave to go on the Fourth of July break. I thank you.

Dear Democratic Colleague,

"You're in Your Mother's Arms" should always be a comfort and an assurance to children that everything's going to be alright. Sadly, current Administration policy and practice at the border pulls apart the connection between parents and children, undermining families.

The humanitarian emergency at our southern border challenges the conscience of America, and we must act.

For the children, we must do the best we can.

For the children's health, we must ensure higher standards for medical care, nutrition and hygiene.

For the children's safety, we must limit the number of days a child can spend in an influx facility to 90 days, and hold contractors to strong influx facility standards of care.

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement to mark the 4th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision on marriage equality:

"Four years ago, our nation and the lives of all LGBTQ Americans were transformed when the Supreme Court ruled unequivocally in Obergefell v. Hodges that marriage equality was the right of everyone. This decision was about equal justice, but also about the right to live with dignity and pride, regardless of who you are or whom you love.

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after Special Counsel Mueller agreed to come to Congress to publicly testify on July 17:

"We are pleased that the American people will hear directly from Special Counsel Mueller. Our national security is being threatened and the American people deserve answers.

"The Mueller Report revealed that the Russians waged a ‘sweeping and systematic' attack on our elections, and America's top intelligence and law enforcement officials have warned that the Russians will attack our elections again. Yet, sadly the President calls it a hoax, and suggests that he would welcome Russian interference again.

"Members of Congress must honor our oath and our patriotic duty to follow the facts, so we can protect our democracy."

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the introduction of a strong border supplemental bill, which provides robust funding to relieve the humanitarian situation at the border and does not fund the Administration's failed policy of mass detention:

"This week, the House will advance strong border legislation, which protects vulnerable children and keeps America safe as it honors our values. Congress continues to insist that families belong together and for immigrant communities to know their rights.

"We salute Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard and all the appropriators for their relentless, good-faith work to address the heartbreaking and urgent humanitarian situation at our southwest border.
