Press Releases
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement calling on the President to halt his heartless planned immigration raids:
"Tomorrow is Sunday, and as many people of faith attend religious services, the President has ordered heartless raids. It is my hope that before Sunday, leaders of the faith-based community and other organizations that respect the dignity and worth of people will call upon the President to stop this brutal action which will tear families apart and inject terror into our communities.
"Families belong together. These families are hard-working members of our communities and our country. The President's action makes no distinction between a status violation and committing a serious crime.
"It is important that the President and our immigrant communities know that they have rights in America.

The GI Bill is a sacred promise that our nation made to honor the service and sacrifice of our military. Washington D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke with press about the President's decision to approve and then cancel a military strike on Iran. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Q: Madam Speaker –
Speaker Pelosi. Hello, hello.
Q: Do you believe your message in the Situation Room yesterday about de-escalation may have played a role in the President's decision-making to pull back last night?
Speaker Pelosi. Well, I think the message was bipartisan, in terms of de-escalating, based on a couple of things. First of all, we have no illusions about Iran. It's a very dangerous country and there are divisions within the country about hardliners versus others.

"We are in an extremely dangerous and sensitive situation with Iran. We must calibrate a response that de-escalates and advances American interests, and we must be clear as to what those interests are.
"During our meeting with the President at the White House, Congressional Leaders stressed the necessity that we work with our allies and not strengthen the hand of Iran's hardliners.
"Democratic Leaders emphasized that hostilities must not be initiated without the approval of Congress.
"We have no illusions about the dangerous conduct of the Iranian regime. This is a dangerous, high-tension situation that requires a strong, smart and strategic approach."

[Laughter]
Sufficient for what?
Q: Well, what you need to know?
Speaker Pelosi. We just had a very intense briefing for our Caucus so that Members had current knowledge on the situation that we are in.
As you know, there was an Iranian attack on an American asset – that is in doubt as to who motivated it, in terms of whether it was officially sanctioned or was it a rogue attack. Whatever it is, it was Iranian.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following a White House briefing on Iran with House and Senate leaders on the targeting of an unmanned U.S. drone by Iran:
"In light of the targeting of an unmanned U.S. drone by Iran, it is essential that we remain fully engaged with our allies, recognize that we are not dealing with a responsible adversary and do everything in our power to de-escalate.

A strong win over a championship Congressional women's softball – at the game last night.
I'm very proud of our team, though, from Congress: Democratic women, Republican women, Senators and House Members in unity playing the press. I wasn't asking for any credentials of some of those, shall we say, younger players. But it was a great game. You did well.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks at a photo opportunity with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada at the top of their meeting in the Capitol. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. Good afternoon, everyone.
It is really a high honor for me and a personal privilege to welcome the Prime Minister of Canada once again to the Capitol of the United States. We were recently together in Normandy. We had a delegation of nearly 60 House Members – half Democrats, half Republicans, like Noah's Ark – going to Normandy to pay tribute to our veterans, and we were proud to join the Prime Minister there at Juno Beach to pay tribute to the contribution that Canada made to that historic Normandy invasion.
