Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement in recognition of United Nations' World Refugee Day:
"On World Refugee Day, people across the globe pause to reflect on the struggles of millions of men, women and children who have been forced to flee their homes, their families and their countries to escape unimaginable violence, persecution and natural disasters. Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the Trump Administration's repeal of the Obama-era Clean Power Plan and replacement with a special interest, dirty power plan that abandons America's leadership in the fight against the climate crisis:
"The Trump Administration's outrageous Dirty Power Scam is a stunning giveaway to big polluters, giving dirty special interests the greenlight to choke our skies, poison our waters and worsen the climate crisis. The growing climate crisis is the existential threat of our time and President Trump's shameful response was to put lobbyists and polluters in charge of protecting your health and safety. By repealing the historic Clean Power Plan, the Trump Administration has doubled down on their all-out assault on the health and well-being of our children and our communities.

Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. I thank you very much, Mr. Chairman, for giving me the opportunity.
I thank the bipartisan leadership of this Committee for the unanimous consent for the Speaker to be allowed to participate, to listen to the testimony and to share a few thoughts with you.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer released the following statement after a meeting with Congressional leaders and Trump Administration officials to discuss budget caps negotiations:
"Regular order involves the House and Senate each acting and then going to conference to resolve their differences. Meeting the needs of the American people must always be a guiding principle in these negotiations as Democrats continue to insist that we adequately invest in critical domestic priorities, including our commitments to our heroic veterans and the Census. When left to their own devices, House and Senate appropriators, Democrats and Republicans working together, can get the job done.
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Defense Department announced the authorization of 1,000 additional troops to the Middle East in response to recent tensions with Iran:
"Americans must have no illusions about the Iranian regime, and must remain committed to holding Iran accountable for its dangerous activities in the region. But we must be strong, smart and strategic – not reckless and rash – in how to proceed.
"The Congress must be immediately briefed on the Administration's decisions and plans.
"This deeply concerning decision may escalate the situation with Iran and risk serious miscalculations on either side. Diplomacy is needed to defuse tensions, therefore America must continue to consult with our allies so that we do not make the region less safe."
Washington D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined House Democrats for a bill enrollment ceremony for H.R. 299, the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act of 2019. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. Well, good afternoon everyone.
Thank you for being here.
This is a very important day for us because, as we all know, our veterans are so important to us.
Many of us were just in Normandy a week-and-a-half ago to pay tribute to those who just accomplished something historic. An invasion – certainly a naval invasion – bigger than any time in the history of our country.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the President's threat to arrest and deport millions of immigrants, and to specifically target families:
"The President's new threat of a mass deportation dragnet is an act of utter malice and bigotry, designed solely to inject fear in our communities. This plan revives the horror of the President's family separation policy, inflicting its inhumanity on countless hard-working families across America.
"Since Day One, the Administration's failed policies – from family separation, to child incarceration, to gutting asylum protections – have created senseless tragedy and heartbreak both at the border and throughout our country, and have turned America's back on a decades-long, bipartisan understanding of the value of immigrants to our nation.
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement marking four years since the racist act of violence that killed nine parishioners at the historic Mother Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C. on June 17, 2015:
"Four years ago, in a horrific and heartbreaking act of hate and brutality, nine beautiful souls were murdered as they gathered together in prayer at the Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston. For the countless friends, families and survivors, the pain and grief of that horrible day remains a constant reminder of the work we must do to fight racism and end the daily tragedy of gun violence in our communities and our nation.
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on reports that President Trump is working on a "new" plan to dismantle Americans' health care:
"The American people already know exactly what the President's health care plans mean in their lives: higher costs, worse coverage and the end of lifesaving protections for people with pre-existing conditions.
"President Trump has waged an assault on health care since the start, and continues to order the Justice Department to ask the courts to destroy protections for people with pre-existing conditions and strike down every other protection and guarantee of affordable health care for America's families. And since Day One, the Trump Administration has worked relentlessly to push families into disastrous junk plans, increase their health care costs and gut their health care protections.
