Speaker Pelosi.  Good morning.  This week the House Democrats are continuing to pass Senate Republican language.  As I said in my Opening Day remarks, we want to accept good ideas wherever they come from, if they're a solution.  And so, in that spirit, we accepted the Senate Republican language for bills that had passed the Senate 92 to 6.  Strong bipartisan support.  We're putting those on the floor each day.

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks with fellow Democratic Congressional leaders following a meeting at the White House.  Below are the Speaker's remarks:

Speaker Pelosi. It is cold out here, and the temperature wasn't much warmer in the Situation Room.  Our meeting did not last long.

But it is so sad that in a matter of hours, or just a few days, many people – federal workers – will not be receiving their paychecks, and what that means in their lives is tragic in terms of their credit rating, paying their mortgage, paying their rent, paying their car payment, paying their children's tuition and the rest.

Washington, D.C. – Tonight, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer responded to President Trump's address.  Democrats offered solutions to reopen government, secure the border and honor our values.  Below are the remarks as delivered:

Speaker Pelosi.  Good evening. I appreciate the opportunity to speak directly to the American people tonight about how we can end this shutdown and meet the needs of the American people.

Sadly, much of what we have heard from President Trump throughout this senseless shutdown has been full of misinformation and even malice.

The President has chosen fear. We want to start with the facts.

The fact is: On the very first day of this Congress, House Democrats passed Senate Republican legislation to re-open government and fund smart, effective border security solutions.
