“Outgoing Chairwoman Janet Yellen leaves an exceptional legacy for women, our economy and our country.  Dr. Yellen’s brilliant mind and firm leadership have been transformative for our nation, and her steady hand on the tiller turned a struggling economy into an engine of strong and steady growth.  Her progress in reducing unemployment, growing wages and promoting more equal growth will long benefit the American people.

This week, Republicans will bring a bill to the floor to repeal the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) that is not paid for.  While we understand that some of us support the repeal of IPAB, we urge you to stand with us and vote against the bill.  We believe it is undeniably hypocritical for Republicans to offset the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Community Health Centers and other public health extenders on the backs of beneficiaries and the nation’s health, while voting to repeal IPAB without offsets.

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi joined Representative Sean Patrick Maloney (NY-18), members of the LGBT Equality Caucus, other Congressional Members and supporting organizations at an announcement of an amicus brief in support of civil rights protections for historically marginalized groups. Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission focuses on whether a business can legally discriminate against customers based on sexual orientation, race, religion and ability, among others, by citing First Amendment protections for “sincerely” held religious beliefs. Washington, D.C. – At a bipartisan meeting today in the U.S. Capitol, Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi directly called on Dr. Ali Abdel Aal Sayyed Ahmed, Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives to denounce the assault on civil liberties involving anti-LGBT persecution, NGO activity and attacks on religious minorities in Egypt.  Leader Pelosi also hand-delivered a letter addressed to the Egyptian Speaker detailing her strong concerns.
