Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released this statement following recent reports of a $300 million, no-bid contract awarded to Whitefish Energy Holdings and the news that the PROMESA Oversight Board has taken steps to assume control over the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority:

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks of the Floor on the House of Representatives to express her appreciation for the first responders to the wildfires in California and her opposition to the Republicans’ job-killing, seniors-betraying budget which paves the way for a billionaires-first tax plan.  Below are the Leader’s remarks:

Today on Fox Business, House Budget Committee Chairwoman Diane Black tried to sell the Ryan McConnell tax plan under the false pretense that it ‘socks it’ to the rich.  However, the Tax Policy Center’s analysis shows the highest-income households would in fact reap the most rewards in tax cuts while millions of middle class working families would see an increase in their taxes.  

The White House’s spiteful decision to singlehandedly hike Americans’ premiums by 20 percent was cruel, malicious and unlawful.  Regardless of whether President Trump likes it or not, the Affordable Care Act requires the executive branch to make the cost-sharing reduction payments vital to lowering Americans’ premiums.  The District Court should issue the only ruling consistent with the text and structure of the Affordable Care Act: that the Administration must immediately resume making these premium-lowering payments.  

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Richard Neal of Massachusetts, Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, delivered the Weekly Democratic Address.  In this week’s address, Neal rejected the Ryan-McConnell tax cuts for the rich plan, and called for bipartisan tax reform that puts the middle class first.  Video and audio of the Weekly Democratic Address can be downloaded here.
