For the last eight years, Republicans in Congress have gone into hysterics over President Obama’s budgets, attempting to misguide the American public that we were hurtling toward a ‘debt crisis.’

Democrats have always been willing to engage in bipartisan tax reform.  Republicans’ tax framework is not tax reform, it is a framework that gives away the store to the wealthiest, while sticking the middle class with the bill.  Cutting the top tax bracket for the richest and the $270 billion giveaway of repealing the estate tax reveal a GOP tax framework built for billionaires.  Meanwhile, the token provisions for hard-working middle class families are likely swallowed by Republicans raising the base rate and forcing them to pay more for their state and local tax burden.  

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced that she will appoint Nancy Altman to the Social Security Advisory Board.  The Board is a bipartisan, independent federal government agency established to advise the President, the Congress, and the Commissioner of Social Security on matters of policy and administration of the Old-age, Survivors and Disability Insurance and the Supplemental Security Income programs.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after Senate Republicans announced that they will not bring Graham-Cassidy to a vote on the Senate floor:

Thank you very much Madam Chair [Michelle Lujan Grisham].  Thank you for your leadership.  I just got a message that [Senator Susan] Collins is a ‘no’ on Graham-Cassidy.  We have so many things going on here.

If House Republicans gave the bipartisan DREAM Act an up-or-down vote, we know it would pass.  Our nation’s patriotic young DREAMers are an inspiration to us all, and Congress has a moral responsibility to defend them by immediately passing the bipartisan DREAM Act.
