San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the new OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard for health care workers:
"Protecting the frontline heroes who risk their lives to save others is a health, economic and moral priority for Democrats. Since the earliest days of the pandemic, House Democrats have led the fight for strong OSHA standards to protect workers' health and honor their sacrifice.
"The new OSHA Emergency Temporary Standard for health care workers is an important first step to protect frontline workers, with strong, enforceable safety protections.
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking the 58th anniversary of the Equal Pay Act, signed into law by President Kennedy on June 10, 1963:
"Today, our nation marks 58 years of the Equal Pay Act, which enshrined ‘equal pay for equal work' into law. This vital principle is foundational to our democracy's promise of full equality and imperative for our nation's economic success. While we have made some progress over the last six decades, equal pay is not yet a reality: women are still paid only 82 cents for every dollar paid to men. For women of color, the gap is far worse: Black women make 63 cents, Native women make 60 cents and Latinas make 55 cents.
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the interview of former White House Counsel Don McGahn before the House Judiciary Committee, which was the result of a House subpoena:
"The fact that McGahn testified is a victory for Democracy. It is a resounding vindication of the House's subpoena powers, which are a pillar of our system of checks of balances that ensure that Congress can pursue the truth for the American people.
"The truth is that Donald Trump was impeached for his egregious and unprecedented violations of our Constitution and our Democracy.
"It is imperative that all administrations respect the Congress's authority to conduct oversight and consider legislation on behalf of the American people, including its subpoena power."
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement marking 40 years since the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a report on what would later be understood as the first documented cases of AIDS on June 5, 1981:
"Today, Americans mark a solemn milestone: forty years since the discovery of HIV/AIDS, a disease that has inflicted nearly unparalleled anguish, pain and devastation on our country and world. On this day, we take time to mourn the hundreds of thousands of Americans we have lost to this vicious disease and pray for all grieving their tragic loss. We also pay tribute to the more than one million Americans living with HIV today, who have bravely battled not only the virus but its cruel stigma.
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement marking 32 years since the Tiananmen Square Massacre:
"June 4 is a date that is, and must always be, seared into the consciousness of all freedom-loving people. Thirty-two years ago, students, workers and citizens peacefully took to the streets to demand their liberties from an oppressive Chinese regime: one of the greatest acts of political courage in modern times. Beijing's horrific massacre of these heroes, their own citizens, crushed the protest but could not extinguish the flame of freedom that burned in their hearts – which, today, we must keep alive.
