Tonight, the Federal Reserve announced that it will lend up to $85 billion to the American International Group(AIG):

In an unprecedented move, the Federal Reserve Board is lending as much as $85 billion to rescue crumbling insurer American International Group, officials announced Tuesday evening.

The Fed authorized the Federal Reserve Bank of New York to lend AIG (AIG, Fortune 500) the funds. In return, the federal government will receive a 79.9% stake in the company.

The House has passed the Comprehensive American Energy Security and Consumer Protection Act by a vote of 236-189. The legislation puts us on the path toward energy independence by expanding domestic supply, protecting consumers with strong action to lower the costs of energy, protects taxpayers by making Big Oil pay for its fair share of our transition to a clean, renewable energy future, and helps create millions of good-paying green jobs.
