Even as the Congress addresses some of the White House's concerns, the President waves his veto pen at any proposal that does not give him a blank check for a war without end in Iraq.
The President refuses to listen to the American people who want this war to end. Instead, what they're getting from the President is further escalation of the war: maintaining an additional 35,000 troops, lengthened deployments, and expanded troop levels until at least April 2008.
Corrupt practices among lenders, schools, and public officials have undermined our student loan programs. At a time when students and their families are facing mountains of debt to earn a higher education, some lenders are filling their pockets. Today, the cozy and unethical relationship between these lenders and school officials, paid for on the backs of our nation's young people, will come to an end.

Gas prices hit a record nationwide average of $3.07 per gallon this week. For six years, President Bush and the previous Republican Congress failed to enact a comprehensive energy strategy that would help stabilize the cost of gas and make America more energy independent. Now American families and businesses are paying an even higher price for this failure to act. House Democrats are working to bring down the cost of gas and make America energy independent.
