Speaker Pelosi. Good afternoon.

Thank you for being accommodating. We had important legislation on the Floor, and so thank you.

We have an – it's an interesting week, right? But today I just want to talk about two important things, both begin with a ‘c': the coronavirus and the Census.

Earlier this morning, some of us were together right in this very spot, talking about the Census and how it's starting now and we want everyone to participate. We want everybody in America to help define the size and the character of the quality and quantity, not only that, the beautiful diversity of America. And we want to help to avoid some of the attempts that are coming to undermine an accurate count.

But I'm honored to be with all the people who are here. They've been champions on who we are as Americans. In addition, Carolyn Maloney, who I'm sure will probably be joining you, has been for ten years talking about the Census working with Mr. Kilmer in the Appropriations Committee.

It is the beginning of Women's History Month. What better way to launch it than to honor Dolores Huerta? I see her right there.

It's a personal privilege for me as well as an official one as Speaker, but personal because Dolores and I have been friends since the seventies. I know some of you weren't even born yet, but we were good friends even then.

The TAIPEI Act celebrates and supports Taiwan’s commitment to democracy, by preserving and promoting its position on the international stage. It is imperative that America encourages our allies and partners to strengthen their diplomatic ties with Taipei, and that we ensure that Taiwan has a seat at the international decision-making table, including at the United Nations.

We can do that now because today we reached a bipartisan, bicameral agreement on an emergency coronavirus response funding package of $8.3 billion of entirely new funds, thanks to our appropriations negotiators under Chairwoman Nita Lowey.
