Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats held a bill enrollment ceremony for H.R. 3525, the Commission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Museum of Asian Pacific American History and Culture Act. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. Good afternoon, everyone. This is a pretty exciting day for us because today, the Congress will send to the President's desk this important legislation. And it is really because of the great leadership of Congresswoman Grace Meng – of her legislation making the National Asian Pacific American Museum established in our world here. I don't know where. Maybe people were fighting for the location.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, Members of Congress and gun safety advocates to open the Gun Violence Memorial on the National Mall, honoring Americans lost to gun violence and calling for action in the face of this worsening public health crisis. Dear Democratic Colleague,
This morning, under the leadership of our national heroine on gun violence prevention, Gabby Giffords, Members of Congress and outside advocates gathered on the National Mall. We were there in the midst of 45,000 flowers, in honor of the 45,000 people who died of gun violence in 2020 — a staggering toll 5,000 more than the year before. In their remarks, Members and advocates talked about the need for and prospects of success for gun violence prevention legislation.
San Francisco – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement marking 33 years since the Tiananmen Square Massacre:
"Thirty-three years ago, brave Chinese demonstrators inspired the world through one of the greatest acts of political courage in modern times as they stood up for their rights and freedoms in Tiananmen Square. Today, the image of a lone figure – unyielding before a line of tanks – remains seared in the memory of all democracy-loving people. As the world honors the courage of students, workers and ordinary citizens who peacefully defied the Chinese Communist Party's oppressive regime, let us renew our vow to keep alive the flame of freedom that burned in their hearts.

"May's jobs report shows that Democrats' economic plan continues to power healthy job gains as our economy transitions from recovery to strong, steady growth. With the help of our Rescue Plan, our nation has created more than eight million new jobs under the Biden Administration and slashed unemployment to nearly its pre-pandemic low.
