Last week, our nation marked six months since President Trump’s inauguration. For the first time in a decade, the GOP had the White House, Congress and complete control of the legislative process to advance its agenda. But instead of creating good-paying jobs, or rebuilding America’s crumbling infrastructure, or advancing tax reform, Republicans have spent six months trying to raise Americans’ health costs to fund tax breaks for billionaires.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today, marking the seventh anniversary of President Barack Obama's signing of the landmark, Democratic-passed Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act:

"Seven years ago, Democrats enacted the strongest set of Wall Street and consumer financial protections in history: the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.  Dodd-Frank ushered in an era of financial stability, prevented future catastrophic meltdowns and taxpayer-funded bailouts and created tough, new rules to protect American consumers from predatory and abusive practices.  So far, Dodd-Frank's Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has returned $12 billion to 29 million Americans wronged by abusive and unscrupulous financial marketplace companies.

As support for Trumpcare continues to plummet (just 12% according to the latest poll), Senate Republicans’ failed strategy is to continue to re-release the bill in worse and worse iterations. Now, in a pinch to prove to Americans that Republicans are capable of any major legislative accomplishment, they’re plotting to hastily push through a bill which would mean higher costs for less coverage, millions of Americans losing coverage, and devastating cuts to Medicaid.
