San Francisco – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the UN Security Council resolution on Israeli settlements voted on today. The U.S. abstained in the vote.

"The only durable resolution to the Palestinian conflict is one that is negotiated and agreed to by Israelis and Palestinians themselves – not one imposed by the United Nations.  That is why President Obama and Secretary Kerry have worked tirelessly to try to bring Israeli and Palestinian leaders to the table for direct and constructive talks.

"While adding settlements does not move us closer to peace, neither does this troubling UN resolution. The two-state solution has been the bedrock of peace efforts between Israelis and Palestinians for decades.  The resolution passed by the UN Security Council today does not bring us closer to this goal.

"For the Director of OMB, President-elect Trump has picked the ringleader of Republicans' efforts to hold the full faith and credit of the United States hostage.  That same toxic irresponsibility was on display when Congressman Mulvaney voted against ending the Republican Government Shutdown in 2013, and voted to try to shut down the government again last year.
