U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will host the Group of Seven annual meeting of Speakers and Heads of Parliament this Saturday, September 12, 2020. This year’s theme is “Addressing the Climate Crisis with Economic and Environmental Justice for All,” focusing on the need for strong international action to combat the disparities in health and financial security that have been highlighted by the climate crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.

“On the morning of September 11, 2001, our nation witnessed an unfathomable act of terror that killed 3,000 precious souls, shattered countless lives and stole the innocence and sense of security of a generation. Nineteen years later, we still remember where we were when the Twin Towers fell, when the Pentagon was struck and when Flight 93 was brought down in a field in Pennsylvania. Yet, due to the extraordinary heroism of our firefighters, police officers and first responders who rushed into danger, September 11 does not belong to fear, but rather to courage, patriotism and compassion."

Just came from the beautiful – excuse me – the beautiful service we had, never forget. Tomorrow, as you know, is 9/11. Can you believe it's nineteen years since that terrible tragedy befell our country?

“Yet, instead of fighting to ensure that our teachers, schools and students have the needed resources to stay safe, Secretary DeVos has waged a cruel campaign to steal the funds that Congress allocated. As the House amicus brief makes clear, Secretary DeVos’s assault on public schools is a blatant violation of the law, as has been repeatedly found by the Courts. The Secretary’s actions are also a profound moral failing: undermining the education, health and well-being of our most vulnerable students at a critical moment."

Today’s District Court ruling is a resounding victory for justice, equality and our American Democracy.

The Postal Service is a pillar of our democracy, enshrined in the Constitution and essential for providing critical services, from delivering prescriptions, Social Security benefits and paychecks to tax returns and absentee ballots to millions of Americans. The amicus briefs filed by the House of Representatives today make clear that the Administration’s sabotage campaign has had devastating consequences for our communities while jeopardizing the integrity of our upcoming elections.
