Press Releases
Washington, D.C. — Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement on the horrific mass shooting targeting families at a food festival in Gilroy, California that killed three people, including a six-year-old boy:
"This brutal killing targeting children and families enjoying a day of community breaks the heart of America. We thank the heroic first responders who provided aid and support to those in need, and we send our prayers to all who are mourning the lives that were cruelly cut short by this shocking attack.
"Enough is enough. Congress has a responsibility to every family torn apart by gun violence to act, and help advance a future that is finally free from this senseless violence. Every day the Senate refuses to act is a stain on the conscience of our nation.
Washington, D.C. — Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after President Trump announced the departure of Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats:
"The departure of DNI Coats is bad news for the security of America. As a Republican Senator from Indiana, a George W. Bush-appointed Ambassador to Germany and Director of National Intelligence, he was respected by those on both sides of the aisle as an American patriot.
"DNI Coats' successor must put patriotism before politics, and remember that his oath is to protect the Constitution and the American people, not the President."
Vicenza, Italy – Speaker Pelosi and a high-level Congressional delegation, en route to observe the 400th Anniversary of the First Enslaved Africans Land in America, met today with U.S. Army Major General Roger Cloutier and top military commanders at U.S. Army Africa Command. Washington, D.C. — Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement after the Supreme Court stayed a ruling against President Trump's effort to spend funds not appropriated by Congress to build his wasteful, ineffective border wall:
"Our Founders created a democracy, not a monarchy. The Constitution forbids the President from spending funds that were not appropriated by the Congress.
"For months, the President has sought to undermine our military readiness and steal from our men and women in uniform to waste billions on a wasteful, ineffective wall that Congress on a bipartisan basis has repeatedly refused to fund. The Supreme Court's decision tonight to allow President Trump to defy the bipartisan will of the Congress and proceed with contracts to spend billions of dollars on his wall undermines the Constitution and the law.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi held her weekly press conference today in the Capitol Visitor Center. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. Good morning, everyone.
Well, yesterday, we had a culmination of a lot of work over a period of time to pass the caps agreement in a very strong, bipartisan way on the Floor of the House. Of course, I always want more, but it was bipartisan and it was a compromise.
It was historic. It ended sequestration. Just for what that means in the lives of the American people, sequestration is a place you go when you can't reach agreement and you start cutting how we meet the needs of the American people in a very indiscriminate way. It's harmful to children and other living things. It's harmful to our national security. It's over.
Dear Democratic Colleague,
Yesterday, the House overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan agreement that will invest in middle class priorities that advance the health, financial security and well-being of the American people, and enhance our national security.
Thanks to the leadership and courage of House Democrats, we have ended sequestration and headed off a government shutdown. A special thanks to Appropriations Chairwoman Nita Lowey and Budget Chairman John Yarmuth for their leadership in passing this agreement.
As we go forward into the August work period, House Democrats can take pride in more than 200 days of extraordinary productivity For The People. Our transformational Majority has passed bold legislation to lower health costs, raise workers' wages, clean up government, and more.

Since its passage, the ADA has delivered transformative progress in the fight against discrimination and exclusion, ensuring that the 55 million Americans living with a disability have access to the equal opportunity that is their right.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered remarks on the Floor of the House of Representatives in support of H.R. 3877, the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019. Below are the Speaker's remarks:
Speaker Pelosi. Thank you, Mr. Speaker. I thank the gentleman for yielding, and I thank him for his great work as the Chair of the Budget Committee. He knows better than all of us that a budget, our federal budget should be a statement of our national values and what is important to us as a nation to be reflected in that budget.
I thank you, Mr. Yarmuth, for your leadership and to your staff for bringing this legislation to the Floor.
