"The July jobs report shows some encouraging news, but for the families across the nation working multiple jobs and struggling to make ends meet, the cost of living has surged, wages have stagnated and the GOP's disastrous special interest agenda has left them behind.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer for a bill enrollment ceremony for H.R. 3877, the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019, a bipartisan budget caps and debt limit agreement that will invest in middle class priorities that advance the health, financial security and well-being of the American people and enhance our national security. Washington, D.C. – Yesterday, Speaker Pelosi delivered an address to the Ghanaian Parliament with a message of respect, reaffirming America's commitment to security, freedom and justice for all. The speech marked the first time in history that a Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives has addressed Ghanaian Parliament.
Led by Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) Chairwoman Karen Bass, Speaker Pelosi and 13 Members of the CBC concluded the historic trip to Ghana with a high-level meeting with Speaker Aaron Mike Oquaye and bipartisan leaders of the Ghanaian Parliament.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement following the nomination of former Resident Commissioner Pedro Pierluisi to become the next Secretary of State of Puerto Rico. If confirmed by the Legislative Assembly, Pierluisi will become the next governor of Puerto Rico:
"Exercising their constitutional right to peaceful protest, the people of Puerto Rico spoke clearly and loudly and held their government accountable. It is up to the people of Puerto Rico to decide who will lead them into the future. Respect for Puerto Rico's sovereignty demands nothing less.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. House Representative Annie Kuster (D-NH) and U.S. Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) today led House and Senate Democrats in unveiling a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution that would roll back the 1332 waiver rule, another Trump administration effort to sabotage Americans' health care and another attack on the 130 million Americans who rely on the critical pre-existing condition protections the administration is trying to eliminate. The rule, if left in place, would allow states to greenlight substandard, junk insurance plans that don't fully protect people with pre-existing conditions, don't cover essential health benefits like prescription drugs and maternity coverage, and raise costs on many American families.
Accra, Ghana – Speaker Nancy Pelosi delivered an address to the Ghanaian Parliament as part of a Congressional delegation observing the 400th anniversary of the first enslaved Africans landing in America. Below are the Speaker's remarks:

Mr. Speaker, I thank you for introducing our Members of the Congressional Black Caucus and our backup support of our delegation.

Central Region, Ghana – Today, Speaker Pelosi and Members of the Congressional Black Caucus traveled to Ghana's Central Region to meet with tribal Chiefs and visit the slave dungeons at Elmina and Cape Coast Castles and the "Door of No Return" to observe "The Year of Return." The delegation laid wreaths at both dungeons in remembrance of the millions who lost their lives and freedom in the transatlantic slave trade.
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement marking the 54th anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid being signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on July 30, 1965:
"Fifty-four years ago, our government made a fundamental promise of dignity and security for seniors and working families when President Johnson signed Medicare and Medicaid into law. Today, Medicare and Medicaid are pillars of fairness, justice and health security for millions of Americans. Yet, despite these initiatives' transformational impact on the health and well-being of the American people, Republicans are holding firm to their long-held dream of gutting Medicaid and making Medicare ‘wither on the vine.'
Accra, Ghana – Today, the congressional delegation led by Speaker Pelosi was welcomed to the Jubilee House by President Nana Akufo-Addo and senior cabinet officials for high-level meetings. During their discussions, both parties underscored the importance of the U.S.-Ghana bilateral relationship and the need to leverage public-private partnerships, the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and other mechanisms to increase manufacturing and production capability and mutually beneficial trade opportunities. They also agreed on the importance of ensuring freedom of expression and the protection of human rights.
