Each March 10th, we honor the determination of those who stood against the Chinese government’s brutal attack on Tibetans during the Lhasa Uprising. These people of faith, propelled by the longing to preserve their religion and culture stood defiant in the face of oppression. Refusing to be silenced by violence; they cried out for their just cause. And, around the world, we heard them and continue to hear their cause today.

The first 50 days of the Trump Administration have been a train wreck of fear, incompetence and broken promises. While failing to lift a finger to create jobs, the President has enabled the abuses of his Wall Street friends, tried to make families pay more for less health care, instilled fear among immigrant communities, and allowed Russia to endanger our security.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Department of Labor announced that the economy added a total of 235,000 jobs in February, slightly less than the revised estimate of 238,000 created in January.  With 227,000 private sector jobs being added in February, the economy has added more than 16 million private sector jobs since early 2010.

"February's jobs numbers indicate the enduring power of President Obama's economic leadership.  The firm foundation for growth created under the Obama Administration continues to deliver, but President Trump is taking dangerous steps that will hollow out our economy and weaken working families.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today issued the following statement opposing the Republican Class Action Bill, which would weaken citizens' rights to seek redress from powerful interests and major corporations.  The House just passed the bill by a mostly party-line vote of 220 to 201:

"Today, Republicans are championing big corporations with legislation aimed at eroding class actions, an indispensable tool for citizens to hold powerful interests and big corporations accountable for their misdeeds.  The legislation also includes unconscionable provisions to impede compensation and violate the privacy of victims – many of whom are veterans – of asbestos-related illnesses and mesothelioma.

Republicans are racing their disastrous health bill forward before the CBO can expose its consequences to the American people, but they can’t hide from the facts forever. The latest estimates show that at least 15 million Americans will lose their health coverage. Thirty million people will be hit with the 30 percent premium surcharge of Republicans’ Millennial Penalty – a provision placing a heavy new burden on young adults, the population most likely to face a brief lapse in coverage when changing jobs or moving.

Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi held her weekly press conference today.  Below is a transcript of the press conference.

Leader Pelosi.  Good morning, good morning.  Busy time, busy time.

It's been 7 weeks since the President's inauguration.  Since then, we still have not seen any jobs bill come forward from the President, no jobs proposal, no infrastructure plan, no movement on renegotiation of NAFTA.

What we have seen is the Republicans' long-feared and job-killing health bill that means less coverage and more cost to the American people.  Pay more for less.  Pay more for less.

Hello, everyone. We’re in the middle of votes on International Women’s Day and A Day Without Women, in some circles. But as we observe all of that, in a few moments, we will be coming together, Democrats and Republicans, to observe the 100th anniversary of the election of the first woman – the swearing-in of the first woman in Congress, Jeannette Rankin from Montana. A Republican, as a matter of fact, in 1917. So, that’s our bipartisanship for the day.

Speaker Ryan and Republicans are doing their best to keep their terrible CBO score secret from the American people:

Earlier today in the Ways and Means Committee mark-up, House Republicans blocked House Democrats' amendment requiring the CBO score to be made public for at least 7 days before a vote in the House.

They continue to dodge questions about its impact.

They're trying to discredit the Congressional Budget Office.
